It was a quite and dark night. Rains fell down very heavily allied with heavy lightning and storm. a young traveler was trying to find shelter to protect him from the cold and unfriendly weather. He moved from one big tree to another. And finally he found a terrace of house, a good place to shelter himself.

He was wet all over but he tried to take a rest. He looked very weary. He also ran out of food. His body trembled as he tried to fight his coldness and hunger. He had also suffered from a terrible headache.

Suddenly, a middle-age woman came approaching the house. Actually, she was the owner the house. Seeing the woman coming toward him, the young traveler politely asked her permission to shelter and take a rest in front of her house. "Mam, may i stand here for a moment, it is raining very hard and i need a place to shelter and take a rest for a moment?"

The women nodded down her head as a sign that she did not mind, then she entered the house. In a moment, she came out with a bowl of warm milk and a piece of bread. "Son, you look very hungry. I am sorry all i have is a bowl of warm milk and a small piece of bread," said the woman.

"Thank you Mam, thank you very much," thanked the man. With his trembling hand, he took the meal and finished them at the once. Deep inside his heart he was so grateful for the very precious gift.

Years passed by. One day in a big and famous hospital, it was a very busy day when some people carried old woman in critical condition to the hospital. It seemed that her suffering was caused by a very deadly disease that she had for years. The head of doctor decided to do a surgical operation to save her life.

A few days after the operation, the woman was in the recovery process. During this time she was worried. All she had in her mind was about money to pay all the treatment she had. "How can i pay all this?" asked herself. One day, a nurse came to her with a letter. She worried took and read the paper.

"Dear kindly Mam, allow me to introduce my self. I am the head of the doctors in this hospital. I have also done the operation for you myself. Do not worry about the payment,i have taken care everything for you. Finally i get the change to repay your kindness of giving me a bowl of warm milk and a piece of bread when i was in hunger. I am the hopeless young man that once you helped before. May you always be healthy in you life."

Upon the reading the paper, the woman could not stop herself from shedding her tears. She was so relieved. She had never thought that the little she did sincerely years ago would bring a result like this. She could be saved from her illness and she did not have to spend any money. "I am so lucky this time," she said in happily.

Tempura was introduced to Japan in the mid-sixteenth century by early Portuguese missionaries and traders. Tokugawa Ieyasu, founder and first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate of Japan, reportedly loved tempura.

The word tempura, or the technique of dipping fish and vegetables into a batter and frying them, comes from the word "tempora," a Latin word meaning "times", "time period" used by both Spanish and Portuguese missionaries to refer to the Lenten period or Ember Days (ad tempora quadragesimae), Fridays, and other Christian holy days. Ember Days or quattuor tempora refer to holy days when Catholics avoid meat and instead eat fish or vegetables. The idea that the word "tempura" may have been derived from the Portuguese noun tempero, meaning a spicy condiment or peppery seasoning, or from the verb temperar, meaning "to season" has not been substantiated.However, the Japanese language could easily have assumed the word "tempero" as is, without changing any vowels as both languages are phonetically similar.There is still today a dish in Portugal very similar to tempura called peixinhos da horta, "garden fishies."

It is thought that as the term "tempura" gained popularity in southern Japan, it became widely used to refer to any sort of food prepared using hot oil, including some already existing Japanese foods. Today, the word "tempura" is also commonly used to refer to satsuma age, a fried fish cake which is made without batter.

Tempura Recipe

Ingredients:

Shrimp (shelled and deveined, but leave tails on)
Vegetables* of your choice

Tempura Batter:

1/2 cup plain flour
1/2 cup corn flour or rice flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg yolk
2/3 cup ice cold water
Oil for deep frying

Method:

1. Sift together the dry ingredients and set aside.
2. In a medium bowl, beat the egg slightly and mix with the ice water.
3. Stir in the dry ingredients. Stir only until mixed; mixture will be slightly lumpy.
4. Dip shrimp and *vegetables into the batter and deep fry until golden brown.
5. Fry ingredients a few at a time. Too big a batch may change the temperature of the oil.
6. Drain on paper towels and served immediately.

*Note: You can use a variety of vegetables for tempura e.g. pumpkin, sweet potato, broccoli, string beans, yam. Root vegetables should be sliced thinly so it is cooked through.

A child complained to his father about his life and ask why life is so hard for him. He does not know how to deal with and almost gave up. He was tired to fight. It seems every time one problem is completed, new problems arise.

His father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled 3 pots with water and put it on the fire.

After the water in these pots boil. He put carrots in the pan first, the egg in the second pot, and he put the coffee powder in the pan last. He let it boil without saying a word. The child is silent and waited impatiently, wondering what he was doing his father. After 20 minutes, the father put the fire out.

He set aside the carrots and put them in a bowl, picked up eggs and put them in another bowl, and pour the coffee in another bowl.

Then he asked his son, "What do you see, son?" "Carrots, eggs, and coffee," replied the boy. Her father took her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. He did so and noted that they were soft. His father then asked him to take egg and break it. After throwing his skin, he found a boiled egg is hardened.

Finally, her father asked her to sip the coffee. She smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. After that, the boy asked, "What does it mean, Father?"

He explained that each had faced the same adversity, boiling water, but each reacted differently.

The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. But after boiled, carrots become soft and tender. Egg had been fragile. Thin shell protecting its liquid interior. But after the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique. After being in the boiling water, they changed the water.

Shirley was a beautiful woman of England. Yet, she was not young anymore she was 42 year old already. She lived in Liverpool, the city where she was born.

One summer, her best friend, Jane invited her to go to holiday in Greece. She never goes to Greece, she was curious about that country, so she decided to join with Jane in Holiday.

In the Greece they stayed in a hotel near the beach. There, they welcomed by a friendly man named Costas. He was the manager of the hotel. One evening Shirley went to the bar for some beverage, she found Costas stood there and they begun a conversation.

“You know, I have a boat located near this beach. Actually it belongs to my brother, but if you want, we can go for a ride tomorrow. What do you think?” said The man to her.

“Wow, it would be nice,” she accepted the invitation and she went with him next day. They enjoyed their trip very much, especially Shirley who never sails with a boat.

Actually, Shirley likes the sights of Greece, so after the first trip, she went out with the manager of hotel every day. As usual they swam, sunbathed and spent much time together in the sea. They enjoyed it very much.
